The waste material generated from IT, mainly in the form of old hardware equipments which contains toxic substances must be properly recycled so that these equipments does not end up in a landfill where they can also end up polluting the ground water.

The European Union and many US states have laws that require the electronic waste to be recycled. European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive requires the manufacturers of the electronic equipment to take responsibility to recycle the equipment in a responsible way.

Another solution to this problem is to use innovative recyclable material during the manufacturing of these equipments that can be disposed of easily at the end of the lifecycle of the product. The European Union also has a directive which came into effect on July 1, 2006 to restrict the use of six hazardous materials (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl and polybrominated  diphenyl) in certain electronic equipments.

All these measures will reduce the level of toxic substances in these equipments and thus the e-waste produced.

Who is this ????

The heading of this topic might sound awkward at the beginning, but one would find the deep meaning in it after reading this thought which I had in my mind for many years. Before exactly telling the meaning of this topic, I am going to narrate a small incident which would make the thought even more clear.

There was guy in my colony whose name was George. He used to always be very friendly with everyone in the colony. So once when all the people were having a chat together in the absence of George, there was a sudden discussion why he wasn’t there for the meeting and in the process a discussion started on him by the colony people. Each one was saying how this guy has become such an important person in each one’s family inspite of the fact he was just an outsider in their house and living in the colony for only 2 yrs.

One old person said that actually George had first come to their house as his son’s friend and later started speaking with him and they enjoyed each others company so much that he feels bored in the absence of George. Similarly one more lady said that actually she had met George while both were taking out their dogs for a walk in the evening. Over a period of time she was so mesmerized by George’s manners and his empathetic attitude that she feels he is become a very important person in her life, moreover he has also in the same time helped her husband in his business and brought him out of depression which was due to their 12yr old daughter’s accidental death.

This is you Mr Somebody as Well as Mr nobody as well as Mr Anybody... the game lies in changing it as per the circumstances.

So what did this tell you, that George is some magical or heavenly human being???? Well if you feel that way then you are absolutely wrong because he was just a simple person like us. But the only difference being that he was able to relate things and switch as different persons in different places. It’s as simple as this People love a guy acting as Superman in a movie and they enjoy it, but if someone does the same things on the road it would look strange. Similar is life, we have to switch gears to different phases of life. A person in his life time plays the roles of a child, father, mother, brother, sister, friend, student, teacher and many more…

So it is for us to understand that we have to become somebody and transform to nobody from where we can become anybody. Everything lies in your hand ultimately.

These days in the world of technology and information the thirst to gain knowledge and progress is become the ultimate goal. But gaining this knowledge has become a double edged sword. Where one edge helps us over others and the other edge cuts us.

Information is of mainly two types:

• One that is just for the sake of information but is no way plays a part in affecting your life. for example knowing or not knowing the history of a place in which you live is not going to affect you progress. But it is just and information which you store in your memory which might come useful in the future.
• In the second case the information plays a vital part in your well being and progress. for example knowledge on doing yoga helps you in keeping you body fit and healthy .

Thus we must analyze when storing an information into our memory whether it is useful or not for us because even our brain which has the capacity to store millions of information too has a limitation thus by overfeeding it will make it slow and weak. So in terms of modern say technology for effective application of your brain in utilizing the data it contains optimization is required.

The world in which we live is a paradise with no limits and boundaries. It is we humans who have categorized and separated it creating limits and boundaries. Thus have limited our lives to various restrictions not enjoying the abundant wealth that nature has given us.

To show you how confined and restricted we human beings have become i would like to give you an example. As a teacher of the 1st grade i had once taken the class children on an excursion to a zoological park. The kids where enjoying themselves with all the new things they were seeing form the regular classroom walls . At that moment i caught sight of my students looking intently at something and just walked there when he started shouting how beautiful it is. For a moment i had visualized of seeing a beautiful butterfly. But actually it was a tree lizard. I almost stepped in a hurry showing my discontent on that ugly creature. But the boy was so fascinated with it that i thought for a moment who has told us that an tree lizard is ‘ugly’  and a butterfly is ‘beautiful’. well its just our worldly imagination in others words confinement which limits us from admiring its beauty.

This attitude is something we human beings develop right from our child so in order to come over we need to change our way of thinking and overcome our confinement. Life is too short …. Enjoy it to the utmost..
